ACT Rural Fire Service to assist in Tasmania fires

The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) has received a formal request from the Tasmania Fire Service to send one Remote Area Fire Team (RAFT) as part of a NSW Rural Fire Service contingent to assist in firefighting operations at the Molesworth fire, north-west of Hobart.

Four ACTRFS volunteers will leave Canberra Airport tomorrow morning for a five day deployment returning to the ACT on Wednesday.

The RAFT firefighters will fight the fire in rugged bushland and difficult terrain to assist Tasmanian fire crews.

This team is part of a strong co-operative arrangement the ACT has with interstate authorities to assist in fighting fires in other jurisdictions when required.
